17th Commonwealth Law Conference in Hyderabad

India has the honour of hosting the 17th Commonwealth Law Conference in Hyderabad, India. This will be the first time that the CLA will host an event in India since 1971.
The Conference will be addressed by the Chief Justices & Judges of Commonwealth jurisdictions, including Canada, Caribbean, UK, Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia & New Zealand.
The theme of the conference is ‘Emerging  Economies and the Rule of Law: Challenges & opportunities’. The subjects discussed during the Conference amongst others will be Human Rights & Rule of Law; Corporate & Commercial Law; Federalism; Free & Fair Elections; Judicial Independence & Accountability.
The Conference will give a wonderful opportunity to lawyers and judges to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern and exchange  experiences. Forge new friendships and renew old associations in a convivial atmosphere.
A programme of social and networking events has been designed to ensure that all attendees will have an opportunity to savour some of India’s delights.

Tropical is the right term to define the climate of Hyderabad. Located at an elevation of 544 meters, the city observes three main seasons - summers, monsoons and winters. The summer season extends from March to May, whereas monsoons prevail from June to October and winter season lingers from November to February.

Getting Around Hyderabad
Hyderabad has the third largest bus station facility in Asia, with 72 platforms for 89 buses to load passengers at a time. However, the yellow colored Auto Rickshaw usually referred to as an "auto", is the most widely used transport/ taxi service in the city.Hyderabad is also connected to the rest of the country by National Highways, but like other cities, it suffers from traffic congestion. Inner and Outer Ring Roads, going in and around the city are also underway and are proposed to make travel easier. Many flyovers and subways are also being constructed to ease traffic congestion in the city. In addition, it has a combination of light rail transportation system known as the MultiModal Transport System (MMTS) and suburban railway system which offer connectivity between rail and road transport for the facility of the commuters.

Business Hours
The business hours in Hyderabad are generally from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday - although some companies do work on Saturdays. Shops are open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Banking hours are from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays and 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturdays.

ATMs are available in many parts of Hyderabad - ensure you inform your bank before travelling abroad, and be aware you may be charged for cash withdrawals. It is advisable to exchange some cash before arriving in Hyderabad.

All foreign nationals need Visa to enter India. Only exceptions to this rule are nationals of Nepal and Bhutan. Visas can be purchased before arrival and their cost depends on nationality. The following passports holders can get tourist visa on arrival in India: Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore.

Hyderabad Airport Information
The new state-of-the-art Rajiv Gandhi International Airport opened on March 2008 at Shamshabad, southwest of the city. The airport has the second longest runway in India next to Delhi and caters to the high passenger and cargo transits. It is a hub for Jet Lite, Kingfisher Airlines, SpiceJet and IndiGo Airlines. It also acts as a focus city for Air India, Jet Airways and Deccan. The main airlines arriving to this airport are: Air India, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.
Passengers can also avail themselves of the services of 'Aero Express', the airport shuttle, which is a unique facility provided by the airport. These buses run 24x7 at 30 minutes interval to/from principal locations in the city between 03:30 and 23:30 and at a 1 hour frequency between 23.30 and 03.30.
